Carretera Austral Part 2

Good guy Max from Swizerland - cycling around the world - http://www.globevelo.com/ - his tip - get a Kindle!

Paved road and pretty quiet too!

The rivers are a lovely colour due to minerals

Fishing from the bridge - it was this big!

Home sweet home under another bridge

Not exactly two up, two down, just one. No space for the widescreen TV

This sign mislead me - climbed 700m this day , very,  very steep. I thought this meant down after the next corner. Not so. Another 4km to the top. I had worked out from the last 10km that it was up. All the other "up" signs had the vehicle on the left hand side.

The river by the road is all rapids - i.e. steep.

Bus to Futalafu to buy sunglasses 77km - a side trip so not cheating! Packed with traveller´s bags and people sitting on the floor. The driver had to climb over them to get to his seat.

The first one just showed my legs!

All this way and they are watching rugby - England versus Wales!

 English not widely spoken!

Err - well - mountains - there are quite a lot of them here in the Andes - and they are very hilly!

These guys from Canada on a nine month trip with their children, could only have been around six years old! Amazing.

Nice little town - this is all of it.

Not a bad spot to camp! By an empty house

Early morning mist or clouds  on the mountain.

Gaucho! Horses important here in the south.

You also get bulls  - easily identifiable by their size, horns and well other things. As the Chris-Fiona combination is not the most agile vehicle, I wonder whether red was a good colour for the bags and things!

Awful storm - took me ages to dry out after riding through torrential rain for five hours!

Hot sping pool - thermal therapy for my legs. Saw some dolphins here - this is not a lake, it is a fjord of the Pacific. Spent the day chatting to a couple of good guys from Germany - who shamed me by going in the sea as well. I thought it was too cold!

Some images make you stop and think. I call this one "Reflections".

Quite a few tremors in the North of the country - they are fearful of another earthquake.

Lots and lots of rivers!
Fiona has acquired a handbag - really

This couple are from South Korea! Been cycling seven years and another two to go. 60 countries so far. They had two dogs with them that had followed for 100km. http://www.coupletourist.com/

 Beautiful blue glacier.

Lucky there was this gap in the rock just where the road goes!
 Box of chocolates photo!

A very little fire - cold at nights.

My leg after repeated collisions with the pedal - your foot slips on the rough road when pushing up a hill, and after the tenth time this starts getting really annoying. Apparently you can get quick release pedals for this very reason!

Lovely family - Victor, Tatiana and Katalina - stayed here for a couple of days after four days cycling and a record distance - 60km - in one day. Had a nice conversation with Tatiana - who speaks good English - about Chile. When travelling you really only scratch the surface of what a country is really like, so I learnt a lot from her - Thanks! Victor´s Pisco Sours were not too bad either!

More cyclists - Columbian, Canadian and Argentinian, http://www.cycloexpeditionamericas.com/

Lots of lupins by the road - mostly just over, but an amazing sight when in full flower.

Rosehips - I saw some people collecting them, not sure what for - maybe wine.

Sense of achievement - I went through these mountains a few days previously.

Casa de cyclists -  the owner of this shop allows people to stay for free. 9 of us this night.

Amazing sky at night - zero light pollution. Didn´t quite get the exposure right, perhaps I should have used flash! Think I have identified the Southern Cross, but cannot find Polaris at all.

Great fly fishing down here, rainbow and brown trout and at other times salmon - some of them huge! Real character Jack from New York State - down here for 3 months and coming back again for six months each year.

A local supermarket.

Not a great thing for a cyclist - a tunnel. Fortunately quite short.

I have been through all these places. Time for a quick cup of coffee!

Coyhaique!
